The Final Bow - Psalm 92
All things were made to worship the King!
This instrumental piece was written in collaboration with my wife Katie Calvert’s painting which was inspired by Psalm 92. The elements of these works together are an outflow of worship through artistic expression.
The Psalmist writes a proclamation that it is “good to sing praises … to declare your steadfast love in the morning and your faithfulness by night…” In this imagery of day and night, is a cycle that began with the first day of creation, and will continue until the Reign of the Lord is established forever. The world in which we live and breathe, every ounce of creation was made to prepare the way and ultimately bring Glory to the King. It is because of this truth that we Rejoice, for it is not my works, but by His works we will be made glad and sing for Joy!
“The Final Bow” painting and instrumental use artistic aspects in canvas and melody to focus on the aspects of the continuum of our day by day progression from the perspective of the Sun towards the creation of earth. The Sun shines down on every day and been the light for all humanity created in the image of God since the earth was formed. One day this cycle will end, and the Sun will retire, taking its final bow to make way for the everlasting light of our King who will reign for all eternity.
In this instrumental arrangement the listener is guided through chord progressions and musical melodies that emulate an unresolved daily pattern of time, all pointing to the moment when Jesus comes to establish His kingdom. The song begins with a dissonant quiet that represents the vast expanse and emptiness of time before creation, which is sharply interrupted by a harmonic attack that represents the beginning of “light”. As the day begins, the progressions move to rise and fall with melodies that represent the cycle of the day. The unresolved nature of the progressions are meant to keep the listener in suspense as it represents the earth and all its parts worshiping the Lord. As the sun dances across the sky day by day it points to the glory of the Lord to come. In great anticipation, in its final moment the Sun has prepared to take its final bow (Sabbath), as eternity is resolved and King Jesus comes to sit on his throne, and His kingdom is established forever.
Psalm 92 :
It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High; to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night, to the music of the lute and the harp, to the melody of the lyre.
For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work; at the works of your hands I sing for joy.
How great are your works, O Lord! Your thoughts are very deep! The stupid man cannot know; the fool cannot understand this: that though the wicked sprout like grass and all evildoers flourish, they are doomed to destruction forever; but you, O Lord, are on high forever.
For behold, your enemies, O Lord, for behold, your enemies shall perish; all evildoers shall be scattered.
But you have exalted my horn like that of the wild ox; you have poured over me fresh oil. My eyes have seen the downfall of my enemies; my ears have heard the doom of my evil assailants.
The righteous flourish like the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. They are planted in the house of the Lord; they flourish in the courts of our God. They still bear fruit in old age; they are ever full of sap and green, to declare that the Lord is upright; he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.
